Women’s Hat Trends: Autumn/Winter 2019

Welcome to the first article in a four-part trend series. This post will cover women’s hat trends for the Autumn/Winter 2019 seasons.

A few months ago, we covered the Spring/Summer 2019 seasons. We always strive to stay ahead of the trends so you’re well prepared for what’s coming next.

There are three high-level trends this season.

The first style for the A/W ’19 season is full of radical self-expression through bold fabrics, metallic, glitter, sequins, etc.

The next trend consists of a daring color palette inspired by nature with chunky details and trims.

The final style focuses on sustainability with recycled materials and vintage looks updated for the 21st century.

Over the next few weeks, we will discuss the season’s trends for men and youth, as well as athleisure apparel, so check back for weekly updates.

But first – the ladies!IMG_6397

Style and Personality

For the Autumn/Winter ’19 seasons, you can expect to see a lot of earthy and warmer tones to counteract the cold weather.

In contrast to the light, airy styles you saw in our S/S 2019 series, thicker fabrics and materials like denim, corduroy, velvet, felt, and leather will be popular. We’re also expecting more unique shapes like berets, turbans, and captain’s hats.

Cold Weather

You will see a lot of poms, especially faux fur poms this season, as well as multi-colored and metallic yarns. The natural color palate will be prominent with jacquards, and both chunky and classic cable weaves.

Country Boutique

This season, there will be less of what has traditionally been called bling. Embellishments take the form of large patches, graphics, and taglines. Cacti imagery and other southwestern elements will be common.

Outdoorsy

Frayed patches and heavy decorative stitching is popular in this market as well as sublimated mesh and front panels. Mint, pink, coral, and berry colors are all significant for women’s outletic apparel.

Street Style

The foam trucker hat prevails in this category as well as the dad hat. Pineapples and cacti are common motifs as well as floral patterns and bold taglines.IMG_6401

Decoration Elements

Graphics

As far as graphics and decoration, this season will be full of nature scenery, animal skulls, and other outdoor lifestyle imagery with western art influences. Graphics are often circular shaped and layered with cacti, American flags, and script fonts with distressed looks.

Prints and Patterns

Despite the season, you’re going to see a lot of floral and tropical patterns with palm trees and pineapples, animal prints, and tie-dyes. Ethinic inspired looks, as well as gingham checks and seersucker will also be popular.

Trim and Details

We’re expecting to see 3D embellishments like tassels, poms, and embroidery. You can also expect gold foil print, decorated leather, and unique patch designs and shapes.
