OC News: February 2019

Workplace Literacy Program

Starting in 2011, we developed and funded a workplace literacy program for the factory workers. Our 6th class recently graduated.

In each 9-month cycle, there are 25 students who attend 2 hours per day, 6 days per week. They learn to read and write in their local language as well as mathematics.

We’re proud to announce the next group of students, our 7th class, will begin courses very soon.

Employee Emergency Fund Chili Cook Off

On Friday, February 8th from 11:00-1:00, the Employee Emergency Committee held our annual Chili Cook-Off. Each year, the cook-off raises money for the EE fund. With a minimum $3.00 donation, Outdoor Cap employees were able to chow down on the chili of their choosing.

This year, the proceeds will be going to Beau Brosius and his family as one of his twin boys will have to spend some time in the hospital. The winners were as follows:

  • Best Deer: Steven Jurgensmeyer
  • Best Hot: Ryan Mahoney
  • Best Mild: Jamie Jeter & Janelle Lowe
  • Best Other: Jeremiah Dubbs

Dozens of employees brought sides, desserts, hot dogs, etc. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who donated food, money, or time to Outdoor Cap families facing difficult times.
