Welcome to men’s hats, the second article in the Autumn/Winter
2020 style series.
This season, there are three overarching trends.
The first style for the A/W ’20 season is full of comfortable pieces made of high-quality materials consumers can count on.
The next trend consists of technical and construction aspects including exterior construction details like exposed seams and taping.
The final style focuses on updating old classic elements to better meet the modern needs of consumers.

Men’s Hats: Style and Personality
This season, men’s hats will include a lot of thick, durable fabrics like denim, canvas, ripstop, corduroy, as well as soft twills and heathered fabrics. You’ll see different shapes including trucker caps, split panels, and campers.
Cold Weather
Poms, ear flaps, faux fur, and facemasks will all adorn this year’s batch of knits and cold-weather men's hats. We’re also seeing cuffed beanies, trappers, and jacquard styles.
Outdoorsy
This season is all about hunting, fishing, and other outdoor entertainment markets. You’ll see detailed nature illustrations, all types of camo patterns, and vintage looks with scout patches.
Surf and Skate
Unstructured 5-panel caps have taken over this market. You can expect brighter colors like buttery yellow, gold, and saturated neons, with decoration elements that include screen printing, patterned visors, and multiple logos on a single cap.
Old School
Browns, olives, and other earth tones will work as the base for a substantial portion of products with unique fabrics and textures like denim and leather and vintage baseball pinstripes. This style focuses on quality craftsmanship and functional, weathered men’s hats.
You’ll see scout patches and bright accent colors including sunset designs.
Americana
The Americana trend is very prominent within men’s hats. This season, you can expect distressed and vintage styles with flag imagery.
Men’s Hats: Decoration Elements
Graphics
The graphics are predominately detailed illustrations inspired by nature. Tigers and other Asian-inspired traditional tattoo designs are popular.
Prints and Patterns
Men re embracing florals and other bright patterns and colors. Generic camouflage, and licensed camo patterns remain popular.
Trim and Details
This season, the focus is on small decoration elements that give men’s hats a high-end retail look. You can expect things like branded closures, perforation, embossing, cork, mesh overlays, welds, and small patches.
