OC News: December 2017

Christmas Luncheon

Our annual Christmas luncheon was held on Monday, December 18th from 11:00-1:00 in the warehouse on our Bentonville campus.

It’s important that we take the time to get together as a work family in a fun, relaxed atmosphere to bond and break up the day-to-day norms of work. We enjoy sharing a meal, laughter, high-fives, and memories with one another during the holiday season.

We had a traditional Christmas meal catered, complete with turkey and dressing.  There were dozens of prizes and gift cards raffled off, but the highlight of the afternoon was the Air Band Competition.

Two bands competed for a $500 cash prize.

Ultimately, our esteemed judges selected The South Pole String as the winner, and the second-place band received $100 cash. The line-up was as follows:

  • Santa Slay: Jingle Bells
    • Danny Kepler & Jeremy Kimble
  • The South Pole String Band: Thank God I’m a Country Boy
    • Dustin Boyd, Will Cichy, Grant Cottrell, & Eldon Cowgur

Disabled Veteran Hunting Trip

Outdoor Cap donated hats to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for their annual hunting trip for disabled veterans.

This is a two-day hunting trip, with the hunters having a morning and evening hunt each day. Each hunter is accompanied by a guide to assist them in and out of the blind, as well as ensure they take safe, ethical shots.

This year, there were four hunters; each hunter had the opportunity to shoot at a deer, and two hunters harvested a deer. DSC_0303

Heart to Heart of NWA

Heart to Heart of NWA is an organization designed to help those at are near the poverty level in our area. One of our team members, Jamie Jeter, is heavily involved, so we collected toy donations to help out.

Heart to heart helped 213 families with a total of 767 children this holiday season. Each family received three boxes of food, a turkey, and 10lbs of potatoes. Additionally, each child received a toy and a winter coat.

Pennies for Puppies & Coins for Kitties

In December, we placed containers in our breakrooms to collect spare change to donate to local animal shelters to help pay for food, supplies, equipment, etc.

Coat Drive

We held a coat drive from November 20th – December 15th at our Bentonville campus. With the help of our employees, we were able to collect five boxes full of coats and jackets for the less fortunate. On Tuesday, December 18th, we donated our collection to the Salvation Army!

Team Member of the Quarter

Every 3 months, our DCs elect a team member who went above and beyond for his or her teammates and customers.

Winners are chosen based on adherence to safety initiatives, productivity, reliability, attendance, quality of work, and attitude.

The winners receive a gift card, framed certificate, and OC T-shirt, and their own street sign, which gets hung above an aisle in the DC. The 3rd quarter winner for 2017 was Adrian Salas-Carmona. IMG_2818
